Mode of application

Basamid® can easily be applied by the grower himself. But special care must be taken to ensure that there is sufficient soil moisture content in fine crumbled soil for efficient conversion of dazomet into the active gaseous MITC. An excellent measure of soil humidity is the condition of the sowing bed, i.e. 60-70 % of the water-holding capacity. MITC will move through both soil gas phases and soil water phases.

A minimum soil temperature of 10°C for target sensitivity and a maximum of 25°C should be maintained in order to avoid premature loss of the active gas.

The use of specialized contractors is highly recommended, especially for the combined operation of soil preparation, fertilization, Basamid® application, plant or sowing bed shaping, drip line installation and sealing. Under certain conditions fine-crumbled and treated topsoil can be sealed by compaction and moistening of the first few centimeters of topsoil, to be repeated if it dries out quickly.

Soil aeration no deeper then the incorporation depth and phytotoxicity tests are necessary for crop installation shortly after fumigation.

To avoid the occurrence of phytotoxic effects it is recommended to check the absence of MITC gas in the soil. Therefore typical tests exist e.g. Cress test.
